This is an extremely well designed tool and very simple to use. I only watched a single youtube video and followed the diagrams molded into the tool itself and it worked on the first try. It was easy to hold and had good ergonomics and didn't feel flimsy like I expected. It only took me about 10 minutes to sharpen my entire chain and I think I could easily halve that time with practice. While my chain was only partially dull, I was impatient and wanted to try it as soon as I took it out of the box. Even so, the difference was stark (see photo for before and after) and with just 3 strokes on each tooth the blade was as sharp as it was when I bought it new. A great feature is that you can replace each of the three files individually so this looks like it will easily last a lifetime. I highly recommend getting stump vise to go with it though for using it in the field. Also mark the first tooth you sharpen with a sharpie! Cannot recommend this tool enough, it's great!
The sharpened chain cut like a brand new chain right out of the box. For all you frustrated guys and gals out there who either can't sharpen a chainsaw or don't get a satisfactory result I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TOOL.
I was helping a buddy saw through about 5 cords of wood that was partially frozen with some grit attached from his driveway. The grit was hidden in the ice and snow so the only way i knew i hit it was when i saw sparks and by then it was too late. I would stop and sharpen the blade(would take about 15 minutes with my 18" and no vise) and be back cutting 20 minutes later. it was back to taking nice chunks out again. I will never have to bring a blade into the shop again. I made the mistake and ordered the wrong size the first time and couldn't figure out why it didn't work, so make sure you get the one that matches your saw blade. Wish I had know about this sooner as it would have saved me a lot of money and aggravation of always having to stop cutting and taking the blade off and bringing it to the shop
Wow! I took a chain that I was going to throw out to see how good this sharpener really is. I'm on the 5th day of uses and it's cutting like new. I sharpen it after each day.
I had seen these on Amazon for a while and dismissed them as just another file. Bought a cheap electric bench grinder but was not impressed. Was looking at YT one day and saw videos from a professional lumberjack. He was touting this and showed how to use it. So I thought I'd give it a try. It works as claimed! Easily dresses the chain while on the saw. The first time you have to work a little bit to get the chain properly sharpened, but after that 2 or 3 strokes each time you get the saw out has the chain in good working condition. Easy to take with you so you can stop during the day for a quick chain refresh.
I don't write reviews often but I feel like this one is warranted. This tool is amazing for quickly and effectively sharpening your chain. Most people don't understand the need to file the rakers along with each teeth. This tool is a bit clunky at first but after the third or so use it becomes very clear that this is the way to go. I've used it with the chain on the bar using the tailgate of my truck as a bench to quickly get the saw sharpened to finish a project but I find it much much more effective if you take the chain off and sharpen it in a vise. I think I have a 6 inch vise and I can do 4 teeth at time before moving the chain onto the next set. I highly recommend this item. Make sure you get the proper size for your chain!
